to your representative in Congress
Events
will be important and exciting for methadone maintenance treatment. The FDA will
be handing over their authority to the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and
there will be changes in the methadone regulations to allow for physicians
prescribing methadone. The DEA will remain involved in methadone
regulation as will the states and many regions. But this is definitely the
beginning of a change in methadone treatment and without the voice of the
consumer to assure that quality treatment with dignity and respect is the norm
then methadone treatment will remain pretty much the same.
Can You Add Your Voice?
Write
to your representative in Congress and tell them that methadone saved your
life and that it works. You do not have to sign your name you can make up
a name like “Mary Methadone” or “Tommy Treatment” and say
that you cannot sign your name because of the stigma and prejudice directed
towards this treatment and the recipients of it.
you do one thing for methadone this year — do this!
And throughout the year we will be having a
letter writing blitz to various government agencies and positions etc. You
can easily send the same letter each time. So come back and check every month or
two to see who the next letter should go to.

Money for NAMA by Just Clicking.
Eyegive is an organization on the Web that
helps charities and organizations like NAMA. Basically the idea is that
you sign up for your favorite charity and we hope you will choose NAMA and every
time that you log on to the Web you will first go to the Eyegive site and be
shown an add. Once you click on it you earn 6 cents for NAMA. You
can even go back a number of times to see other ads and earn more money for
NAMA. The ads are not the usual Web ads and before you start you tell what
you are interested in so you only see ads that may be useful to you. You
can even set it up so that after you see the add you can click on a button that
will send you to your usual home page. It takes less than a minute.

The Methadone List
The list on the Internet for Methadone
Patients from all over the world.
To join the methadone list, send an email to
[email protected]
leave the subject blank (if your email
application won’t allow you to
then put subscribe methadone list)
in the body put nothing but the following four
words: subscribe methadone
This is all automated and usually in a few
hours at the most you will get a message that
you are subscribed to the list — which should be
followed by messages from the list.
Now it is much easier to get your messages in
digest form instead of some 50 separate
messages. It is quite an active list.
After you are on the list you can request to have your messages sent via digest
— a number of messages are held and then sent in one message, numbered as a
digest.
I think that the format to do to set the list
to digest format is to send a message to the list processor (same address as to
subscribe) and in the body of the message put:
You can also get a list of commands you can
use while on the list (i.e. setting the list to digest format) and; other
information (like where the archives are) by sending an email to the
listprocessor with only the word help in the body.
NAMA would like to thank CALYX for setting up
