The 12 Steps of NA
Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a 12-step program designed to help people recover from drug addiction. The 12 steps aim to guide members to change their mindsets and behaviors related to substance abuse. The steps are:
- Admit powerlessness over addiction and that lives have become unmanageable.
- Come to believe in a Power greater than oneself that can restore sanity.
- Make the decision to turn will and lives over to taking care of God as understood.
- Make searching and fearless moral inventory of selves.
- Admit to God, selves, and another human being the exact nature of wrongs.
- Become entirely ready to have God remove all character defects.
- Humbly ask God to remove shortcomings.
- Make list of all persons harmed and become willing to make amends.
- Make direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when doing so would injure them or others.
- Continue to take personal inventory and promptly admit when wrong.
- Seek through prayer and meditation to improve conscious contact with God as understood, praying only for knowledge of God’s will and the power to carry that out.
- Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, try to carry this message to other addicts and practice these principles in all affairs.
NA meetings are available throughout Mission and the surrounding Hidalgo County area to provide support and guidance for following this 12-step program.
