What is Narcotics Anonymous?

The 12 Steps of NA

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a nonprofit fellowship or society of recovering drug addicts whose primary purpose is to help addicts stop using drugs. NA outlines a 12-step plan to achieve and maintain recovery from drug addiction. The 12 steps are:

1. Admit powerlessness over addiction, that lives have become unmanageable.
2. Believe that a Power greater than ourselves can restore sanity.
3. Make decision to turn will and lives over to care of God as we understand Him.
4. Make searching and fearless moral inventory of selves.
5. Admit to God, selves, and another human being the exact nature of wrongs.
6. Become entirely ready to have God remove all defects of character.
7. Humbly ask Him to remove shortcomings.
8. Make list of all persons harmed and become willing to make amends.
9. Make direct amends wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continue personal inventory and promptly admit when wrong.
11. Seek through prayer and meditation to improve conscious contact with God as we understand Him, praying only for knowledge of His will and power to carry that out.
12. Carry message to other addicts and practice these principles in all affairs.

Attending Your First Local NA Meeting

There are open and closed NA meetings available in Houston:
