The 12 Steps of NA

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a nonprofit fellowship for recovering drug addicts based on a set of principles known as the 12 steps. Here is an overview of each step as practiced by NA groups in Greensboro and across Guilford County:

  1. Admit powerlessness over addiction and that lives have become unmanageable
  2. Come to believe a Power greater than ourselves can restore sanity
  3. Make decision to turn will and lives over to care of God as we understand Him
  4. Make searching and fearless moral inventory of selves
  5. Admit to God, selves, and another human being the exact nature of wrongs
  6. Become entirely ready to have God remove all defects of character
  7. Humbly ask Him to remove shortcomings
  8. Make list of all persons harmed and become willing to make amends to them all
  9. Make direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others
  10. Continue to take personal inventory and when wrong, promptly admit it
  11. Seek through prayer and meditation to improve conscious contact with God as we understand Him, praying only for knowledge of His will and the power to carry that out
  12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, try to carry this message to other addicts and practice these principles in all affairs

The 12 steps aim to motivate NA members in Greensboro and across Guilford County, North Carolina toward positive change in their lives and communities. NA groups help members achieve and maintain drug-free lifestyles.
