The 12 Steps of NA
The 12 steps of Narcotics Anonymous (NA) provide a spiritual path to recovery from addiction. The steps aim to motivate members to make positive changes in their lives by:
- Admitting powerlessness over addiction and that lives have become unmanageable.
- Coming to believe in a Higher Power that can restore sanity.
- Turning will and lives over to God’s care.
- Making a searching and fearless moral inventory of selves.
- Admitting to God, selves, and others the exact nature of wrongs.
- Becoming entirely ready to have these defects removed.
- Humbly asking God to remove shortcomings.
- Making a list of all persons harmed and becoming willing to make amends.
- Making direct amends whenever possible except when to do so would injure self or others.
- Continuing to take personal inventory and promptly admit wrongs.
- Seeking through prayer and meditation to improve conscious contact with a Higher Power.
- Experiencing a spiritual awakening and carrying the NA message to other addicts.
NA groups across Montana follow the 12 steps to promote addiction recovery through peer support, spirituality, and service. NA aims to motivate members to make positive life changes by working through the steps with sponsors and helping others in recovery. The program provides a supportive community for addicted persons seeking freedom from active addiction.
