We Speak Methadone (and buprenorphine)

I was perusing the American Society for Addiction Medicine (ASAM) website and I found this link to help consumers understand their rights under the parity laws that went into effect July 1st.

Thought it might be useful...I think many providers have their heads in the sand about this and so do many insurance companies. It's up to US to flex our muscle and make sure we are getting the coverage through our insurance carriers.

I'm going to submit my claim to Blue Cross for the first time in three years. We'll see how it goes. I encourage everyone paying out of pocket who is carrying an insurance policy to check the T&C's and check out this link.

You're absolutely right, MB, and I hate to admit that I've been one of those people who gave up way too easily. With the mental health parity laws now in effect insurance companies won't have a choice in the matter - they're going to HAVE to cover this stuff but we have to do our part first too.

I'm happy to say I'm submitting my first claim in over three years to BC/BS. I did the math - I've paid over $10,000 out of pocket in just the last three years.
